Great in depth review! Thanks! You should send a copy to Sea Kayaker!

Good comprehensive and honest review! I own an Xcite (also in the hard core construction) and would concur with your comments about rough water handling. I live in the north of Scotland and paddle mostly on the West coast among the islands and sea lochs. The Xcite gives a very confidence-inspiring ride in rougher conditions. It’s as if the rougher it gets, the more stable the boat becomes, to a degree of course! I always feel that if I relax, the boat will look after me in conditions which are challenging for me.

Quality is excellent; as is back-up from Tiderace (Knoydart Sea Kayaking are the main dealer in the UK).

The Xcite differs from the Xplore in having two round hatches rather than the ovals. This sometimes means that a bit of ingenuity is needed in packing for longer trips; but even though it’s designed as a dayboat, it holds plenty for trips.

Totally agree with the comments on the small hatch and the footplate - great innovations (the 4th hatch is now appearing in P & H boats too).

Quite a similar boat to the Xplore is the Rockpool Menai 18.

Kind Regards

Ian Johnston
